Hotel Santiago Habana History, Facts
Some people think that the reason for the hotel name "Hotel Santiago Habana"is that it is at a central point between Santiago de Cuba and La Habana, but truly, that is not the reason for the name or its origins.
Prior to confiscation, the hotel was owned by the Santiago-Habana bus company, the largest privately owned inter city bus company in Cuba. The company had a modern fleet of GM buses and they were painted blue/stainless steel much like Greyhound, the American company.
The hotel served as a bus station for the Santiago-Habana buses and convenience hotel for its clients. The original hotel building was painted a pale blue color on the exterior and at the time was the tallest building in Ciego.
